Easter at Sankeys...

Whilst Easter might be about gorging oneself on chocolate eggs, at Sankeys it’s all about a four-night extended weekend celebrating the diversity of electronic music. The incentive of an extra day off work is enough to get anyone hot under the collar, and throw in a second and it really is party time. So with Easter bringing about the first of four long weekends in 2012, including everything from the Queen’s Jubilee to the annual end of August bash, Sankeys responds with a chocker block session of four glorious club nights. The first quartet is, as you would expect, a complete cracker.

Jackathon mayhem at Sankeys... and looking ahead

To say last Saturday’s Jackathon was one of the best sessions the club has recently seen isn’t really stretching the imagination; the sporadic party, taking place across just a handful of key dates through the year, had people queuing around the block in Ancoats at the weekend to see Heidi, Solomun, Richy Ahmed and co-promoter Ellesse from Kaluki take over Sankeys. These pictures show just how good it was here – and the next instalment is Saturday July 7th.
Don’t forget this weekend sees Radio 1’s Pete Tong headline on Friday and Saturday sees Queens of Sankeys with Dinky, Kim Ann Foxman and Blond:Ish.
Next weekend sees a Twice As Nice takeover on Friday helmed by grime star Wretch 32.
Saturday is a bit special too, with Dixon and Ame on lockdown for some seriously deep grooves. Check out Dixon’s seminal Beats in Space mix from back in November here.

Pete Tong returns to Sankeys next weekend...

There’s a great St Patrick’s Day next weekend at the club. We’ve opted for two line-ups which doffs their cap to some of the most worthy figures within the world of dance music, bringing some of the world’s biggest names once more to Sankeys.

Topping the bill is the patron saint of electronica, Pete Tong. Pete is, quite simply, the voice of house music. His two hugely iconic, influential and important radio shows have been staples of the dance music diet in the past twenty years, the Essential Selection bringing the best music to listeners every week. The Essential Mix pioneered the art form of the DJ mix, and Pete has been the figurehead for all forms of dance music everywhere from Ibiza to Islington, Miami to Manila. Thomas Gold, Juan Kidd and Dutch Rudder all support. Check Thomas' mixes here: Thomas Gold Sound Cloud

Saturday sees Queens of Sankeys return. Heading up the bill is Dinky, the Chilean chanteuse at the forefront of the cross continental marriage of Latin influences on the European electronic template. In 1994 Dinky met Ricardo Villalobos, both of their careers having since been intertwined in a surge forward through forward thinking and exciting electronic music. Hercules and Love Affair’s Kim Ann Foxman and Blond:Ish support this all-female session. Listen to Dinky here: Dinky Panorama Bar

Sankeys this weekend... Benga and The Jackathon...

So that’s another huge weekend done and dusted at the club, and we’re already looking ahead to this Friday and Saturday at Sankeys. Continue showed yet again how far it has evolved in such a short space of time; amazing scenes yet again at this session which keeps getting better and better.
There are two huge and very diverse shows to take in this weekend. Friday sees the biggest drum n bass and dubstep conglomerate known to mankind with Metropolis taking over, a domineering force that has towered over and influenced the entire scene much like the iconic Fritz Lang film that they share a name with. Benga headlines this one, with Subfocus and crew in support.
Then one day later, Sankey’s favourite rave Vixen Heidi is at the helm, bringing her Jackathon series to the fore with a stunning ensemble of forward thinking house types. The Jackathons have brought some brilliant names to the club and this one is no different, with Diynamic’s Solomun one of the very special guests.
