Sankeys festive shows and brand new Solomun date Sat 29th Dec

Sankeys enters the last days of 2012 with a very festive spring in its step. After celebrating its 18th anniversary in Manchester this summer and a brilliant 2nd season in Ibiza, David Vincent’s vision continues to spectacularly evolve. For those seeking a warmer climate to see in the New Year, don’t forget Sankeys are making their Ibiza NYE debut with Tobi Neumann and many more. And there’s a run of brilliant festive shows to savour in Manchester, as the global institution can also now announce a brand new date with Solomun on Saturday 29th December, completing the final events of 2012.
With revered Diynamic label boss Solomun capping off a major year, including his wildly successful Neon Nights season at Sankeys Ibiza and being crowed Mixmag’s DJ Of The Year, there are now two Xmas With Solomun shows on Friday 28th and Sat 29th December. Seeing his imprint, stable of DJs and live acts and his own peerless DJing and production’s meteoric rise, Solomun has been one of the most in-demand artists of 2012, crafting truly sublime parties each week at Sankeys Ibiza in Playa d’en Bossa; it’s really only fitting, then, that Sankeys bring him to Manchester twice for these unique shows, to really give everyone something to celebrate this Xmas.
So, rewinding just a few days earlier, before all the gluttony begins, Sankeysmas ushers in the festive spirit in fine style on Saturday 22nd December. Italian beat-smith Davide Squillace headlines, with Pan Pot, Miguel Campbell and Darius Syrossian all on hand for this one too. Then it’s time to work off those accumulated Xmas calories. Boxing Day sees the Apollonia trio of Dyed Soundorom, Dan Ghenacia and Shonky at Sankeys. Sharing the same musical roots, tastes and creative vision, Apollonia is a natural, if not inevitable progression for the trio, who have performed outstanding sets together so far at Fabric, DC10, Panorama Bar and more, creating epic deep house and techno journeys.
On Thursday 27th, following the parties throughout 2012, marking the 30th Anniversary of FAC 51 and the release of “Hacienda 30: The Album”, FAC 51 The Hacienda are proud to announce their final show of the year at Sankeys. Graeme Park take sole charge of Sankeys’ Basement for a unique seven hour set, whilst upstairs in Spektrum, house icon Marshall Jefferson takes the helm.

Friday 28th and Sat 29th are all about one man, and one man only – Solomun.

Then finally it’s Sankeys NYE. This is it. The final show of the year, and who better to lead the club into 2013 than two of its brightest stars, The Martinez Brothers? In 2006 a single night in New York City helped sow the seeds for The Martinez Brothers’ ascent. The pair were invited by Dennis Ferrer to play at one of the city's longest serving and foremost venues, Shelter. Not only did they smash the party, they got to hear a DJing hero in Timmy Regisford, who played a rough version of their breakthrough track "My Rendition." Since that momentous night, the guys have risen to global stardom, 2012 seeing them everywhere from DC-10 to - of course - Sankeys, winning fans and plaudits the world over for their beautifully honed style. Catch the guys at Sankeys’ NYE party with Phil Weeks and Richy Ahmed, bringing in the New Year at the epoch-defining club.

The Acid Mill Rave All Nighter - Sat 8th Dec

We wouldn’t be anywhere without acid house. Put simply, the machine music born in the mid to late eighties breathed new into club culture and laid the groundwork for the electronic heartbeat which currently serves the global music industry. Nowhere was this impact felt stronger than in the UK, and in particular Manchester, and with Sankeys’ existence based on the pioneer’s pursuits they show their enduring respect to, for example the formative days of the iconic Hacienda. This is exemplified by this weekend’s Saturday session, with the Acid Mill Rave All Nighter and a totemic figure right from its origins.

Headlining is none other than acid house and Manchester music royalty A Guy Called Gerald. As one third of 808 State he laid down some of the most evocative and important music that characterised the period for their first album ‘Newbuild’ and the timeless ‘Pacific,’ but it would be his solo work that would truly encapsulate his genius. The lazy laconic gurgle of ‘Voodoo Ray’ defined a generation, a languid masterpiece which crystallised everything great about dance music not only then, but equally now.

Gerald would then go onto become a founding figure in the emergence of drum and bass through his productions and seminal imprint Juice Box records, before then creating elegant Detroit tinged-techno and song-focused music from his new base in New York in the late nineties. Rightfully heralded as one of the icons of electronic music as we know it, he is still a relentless bastion of all things feted in the genre, a true legend.

Joining Gerald on his voyage through the ages will be a selection of residents and guests paying their own form of homage to the essence of acid. These include Jozef K, who for the very first time teams up with production cohort Winter Son from Ghosting Season, playing a live 808 set. “We can’t wait to unleash this at the club on the 8th,” Jozef explains. “Acid house is still so relevant today, and inspired so many DJs and live acts through the last couple of decades, including us. Tom and I will be using the 808 to full effect, so everyone best be getting ready to rave!” Jozef is an artist whose rapid rise into Sankeys folklore shows no signs of relenting. Support comes from Willow, Jack Barton and H. Hammond.
